- Absence is responsible for huge losses to workforce efficiency.
- Many construction businesses aren’t aware of the extent of the problem.
Despite recent boosts – thanks to large infrastructure projects and new transport links – productivity is a serious issue for the construction sector.
This problem can be partly attributed to the UK’s aging workforce, with FirstCare statistics demonstrating a 132% increase in those working past the age of 60 in the last seven years. This older demographic – especially those employed in the construction sector – are more likely to suffer from musculoskeletal issues.
To compound this issue, workers in their 30s and 40s are increasingly likely to suffer from mental health issues.
FirstCare CEO David Hope’s recent article in Construction Magazine analyses the reasons for the problem in the sector and makes the case for effective absence management as a solution.
